Church Wedding in Italy

A church wedding in Italy has been experiencing a true Renaissance in recent years. More and more couples wish to vow their love before God, and if you are among them, I will be delighted to help you make this dream come true.

Choosing the Location

In deeply religious Italy, unfortunately, not every church accepts foreigners for the sacrament of marriage. However, there is a wide range of beautiful locations where a church wedding is possible — from the mountain-framed north to the lemon-scented Amalfi Coast.

The only popular locations where only civil weddings are allowed are the mountains and Lake Como. But there’s no need to be disappointed — I certainly have wonderful alternatives to offer.

Preparation Time

While documents for a civil wedding can be prepared in about a week, a church wedding in Italy requires much more time. For this reason, I always recommend starting the organization of a church wedding at least six months before the planned wedding date.

Documents

The civil registry documents required for your marriage can usually be prepared within a week. I will assist you in obtaining the correct forms, provide examples, and personally ensure that there are no obstacles during this stage.

Church documents must be discussed and prepared together with your local parish priest. He will help you complete all the forms, receive the necessary sacraments, and take care of sending the documents to Italy.

Main Advantages

If you’ve always dreamed of a church wedding, organizing it in Italy comes with several undeniable advantages:

  • The marriage is fully recognized legally in Lithuania – you won’t need to marry again
  • No translator is required, as the sacrament will be performed by a Lithuanian priest
  • You can choose from charming small chapels to magnificent city cathedrals
  • We can arrange not only the ceremony but also confession before it
  • Your grandparents and guests will be able to understand everything, as the ceremony will be conducted in Lithuanian

Important to Know

A church wedding in Italy requires not only more time for document preparation but also a more respectful approach to dress. I recommend avoiding short dresses, deep necklines, bare shoulders, transparent fabrics, or any other provocative styles. If the dress code is not followed, the priest has the right to ask you to cover up, or even to deny entry to you or your guests who do not meet the standard of respect expected in a place of worship.
