After the global chaos, there’s a desire to start fresh and look at work from a different perspective. Something new, unusual, and beautiful is needed — something unseen and untouched, places not yet trampled by people’s footsteps. A new wedding destination. So, after browsing through my archive of familiar Italian locations, this time I turned my attention to the northern part of the country.
Let me introduce you to Orta and Lago Maggiore
Let’s begin our search for new wedding locations in a place where natural beauty and fantastic scenery reign, where blue lakes wrapped in dreamy mist sparkle among mountain peaks. You could say these are still largely undiscovered lakes, whose deep blue charm rivals that of the famous Como or Garda.
I’d like to invite you to the northernmost part of Italy, bordering Switzerland. Here you’ll discover a unique natural beauty and, without a doubt, get acquainted with rich local culinary traditions. The people’s temperament and the way of life are different from what you usually find in other parts of Italy. This region is simply made for couples who want to maintain a lifestyle close to that of Lithuania, yet still seek a new wedding destination that allows them to surrender to the warm charm of Italy.
Just a two-hour direct flight from Vilnius and a short drive from the airport to the lake, and before your eyes unfolds a breathtaking panorama. Massive mountain peaks, soft white clouds floating above them, and shimmering blue lakes — a mesmerizing palette of nature with a hundred shades of blue.
Following the traditions of Italy’s royal family
Gliding elegantly across the waves of Lake Maggiore by boat, you’ll reach Bella Island, located in the middle of the lake. Here stand magnificent architectural masterpieces, uniquely Italian in their beauty. As always — the most beautiful creations are born from love.
On this island, you’ll be greeted by a palace designed in the 16th century by Count Borromeo and built over the course of 400 years for his wife, Ada. Grand staircases, a beautiful park adorned with azaleas, magnolias, and camellias, and colorful peacocks strolling gracefully — all of this will become part of your unforgettable photo session.
This island still belongs to Italy’s royal Borromeo family. For centuries, the Borromeos and other noble and famous figures from around the world have celebrated their weddings here. Lake Maggiore will also surprise you with its other islands: the Fishermen’s Island, full of authentic ancient charm, and the largest of the three — Madre Island, featuring a stunning botanical garden.
The romance of Lake Orta
Perhaps you’ll fall in love with Northern Italy’s smallest sapphire — Lake Orta? It too has a small island, and along its shores await beautiful villas with wide windows overlooking the depths of the lake.
For your wedding ceremony, ancient gates are opened exclusively for you — symbolically marking the beginning of your new life together. Through them, you’ll walk toward a ceremony surrounded by an enchanting atmosphere — in a historic villa’s park filled with love stories. Or perhaps to a small chapel by the lakeshore, overlooking the greenery and the island of San Giulio? Whatever location you choose to seal your love, I’m certain it will leave you with the most vivid and romantic memories.
I truly believe that you’re looking for a new wedding destination — and very soon, I’ll be able to invite you to an exotic yet equally beautiful place for weddings in Italy. Perhaps even this year, you’ll witness with your own eyes the crystal-clear lakes of Northern Italy in autumn, and on the shores of one of them, say your life-changing “Yes” to the love of your life.
